Company / About us

Surface finishing for generations.

Tradition meets innovation!

We are focusing on the refinement of metallic surfaces for 90 years now. Our services are sought after in Germany as well as abroad. This applies to almost any area of business, to all kinds of components and problems.

We consider ourselves to be service providers and accept the constant challenge to offer you the perfect solution – both in technical and economical terms. To this end, we are investing in innovative engineering services and trained personnel.

Our History

In 1926, at a young age, Mr. Heinrich Schnarr—the founder of Heinrich Schnarr GmbH—made the decision to strike out on his own, leveraging his craftsmanship as a skilled toolmaker.

In Aschaffenburg, he initially began by independently developing and manufacturing bicycles. Shortly after achieving his first successes, his entrepreneurial foresight gave rise to the concept of industrial-scale production – a vision bolstered by the innovative technology of hard chrome plating for corrosion-prone components within the “Spessartrad” series.

The sustained positive trajectory of these operations soon led to the pivotal decision to focus exclusively on surface technology and its vast potential. From this focus evolved the core business that remains central to the company today: the surface finishing of components for virtually every sector of modern industrial engineering, both domestically and abroad. Consequently, Schnarr stands as one of the oldest contract electroplating firms in Germany.

The Second World War – and the total destruction of the facility in 1944 – marked a profound disruption. However, an undiminished entrepreneurial spirit drove an immediate reconstruction effort. The years of the “Economic Miracle,” combined with targeted investments, eventually necessitated a relocation of the facility to meet the demands of expanding operations.

A historically significant film

On the occasion of our company’s 90th anniversary in 2016, a film was produced featuring many special images from the past decades.

Since 1958, at the Mainaschaff facility – spanning an area of 30,000 square meters and equipped with state-of-the-art plant technology as well as a wide array of cylindrical grinding and finishing machines – workpieces with a total length of up to 13 meters and individual weights sometimes exceeding 20 tons have been processed.

Following the passing of Mr. August Schnarr, Mr. Eugen Schnarr led this thriving enterprise as Managing Partner until 2018. Subsequently – and continuing to this day – Mr. Stephan Schröder has served as the principal figure at Heinrich Schnarr GmbH.

Entrepreneurial vision has led to the evolution of what was once a continuous production operation into a distinct, independent business pillar operating alongside the traditional core enterprise.
